In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Niagara SPCA & Humane Society has established the Community Engagement Team to assist in providing support to Niagara pet owners experiencing hardships caused by the crisis. The first initiative of this team is the Community Animal Relief Effort (CARE) supply program.
The CARE program aims to assist seniors and those particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 infection with delivery of supplemental pet food or cat litter for short term relief. The aims of the initiative are to reduce the need for seniors and other vulnerable citizens to leave home to provide for their pets as well as alleviate, even in a small way, some of the economic distress caused to pet owners in this difficult and uncertain situation. Our team members will not directly interact with recipients in order to maintain social distance but will leave the supply at the doorstep. A special email address has been created for use in applying for this program.

Royal Canin and PetValu have partnered with the Niagara SPCA to provide the critical support this program requires.
Due to the nature of this crisis, our program applies to ALL municipalities of the Niagara Region.
To apply for supplies, Niagara residents can contact the Niagara SPCA by phone or email. Because this is intended as a supplemental program, our supplies are limited and we encourage citizens with a genuine need to contact us to ensure that supplies get to the most vulnerable in our community first.
As this is an emergency relief program, the food provided is non-specialized. This means the food provided will be appropriate to the widest variety of cats and dogs as possible and as such we do not have specialized food such as gastro.
The viability of this program depends on a limited supply. Once again, we ask our community to only make use of the program if they feel there is a genuine need for them to do so.
